ANDONG, REPUBLIC OF KOREA — Reinforcing sub-national diplomatic ties and cultural cooperation between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea, the Embassy of the Philippines in Seoul highlighted its enduring partnership with Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and the City of Andong during the 2026 Andong Mask Dance Festival.
Inscribed upon UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the festival serves as a vital international platform for the preservation of traditional performing arts, the promotion of cross-cultural understanding, and the advancement of youth exchange.
During the Opening Ceremony, Her Excellency Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Republic of Korea, met with the Philippine cultural delegation from Central Luzon State University (CLSU), who proudly represented the Philippines on the global stage.
The occasion likewise provided a valuable opportunity for Ambassador Fernandez to reconnect with Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo, following their engagement during the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju, to discuss avenues for further deepening regional cooperation and people-to-people ties.
The Philippine Embassy conveys its sincere gratitude to Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and the City of Andong for their gracious hospitality, steadfast support, and ongoing commitment to international cultural exchange. Special appreciation is extended to Mr. Kwon Ki-chang, Mayor of Andong City, and Mr. Lee Hee-beom, Chair of the Organizing Committee, for their distinguished leadership in hosting international diplomatic and cultural delegations.
Building upon the success of this engagement, the Philippine Embassy remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding collaborative opportunities with Andong City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province across cultural diplomacy, academic exchange, youth development, and sub-national partnerships.
