PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN SEOUL INAUGRATES RENOVATED PINK ROOM

29 March 2026, Seoul — To mark the culmination of the 2025 Women’s Month celebration, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), inaugurated the newly renovated emergency shelter, the PINK Room—or Pinay In Need of Kalinga Room.

In her message, Ambassador Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez emphasized that while the PINK Room serves as a temporary shelter for distressed Pinay workers, it provides a nurturing space where they can find comfort, care, and support as they prepare for the next steps toward their recovery and well-being. She underscored that the Embassy cannot fulfill its mission alone, highlighting the vital role of the Filipino community in shaping responsive and meaningful services. She stressed the importance of listening to the needs and voices of the community, noting that the PINK Room is a product of the continuous improvements being pursued in delivering better services to Filipino workers. She also highlighted the innate strength and meticulous nature of women in maintaining order and fostering care in any environment.

More than just a physical space, the PINK Room symbolizes compassion, protection, and a safe haven for distressed Filipino workers. Established in March 2024, the shelter has accommodated five Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to date—an encouraging indication that Filipino workers in South Korea are generally protected and supported.

The facility is designed not only to provide safe and decent living conditions but also to uphold the dignity, comfort, and sense of home for those experiencing difficult circumstances.

The inauguration of the PINK Room aligns with the Women’s Month sub-theme, “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas.” Just as the Babaylan—a healer and community leader—provides strength and guidance, she too must have a safe space to rest, heal, and regain her strength in times of need.

The blessing of the facility was officiated by Father Arvin Mosqueda and attended by Embassy officials, personnel, and invited guests. END
