PHILIPPINES CALLS FOR STRONGER EAST ASIA-LATIN AMERICA BI-REGIONAL COOPERATION


The Philippines was represented by Department of Foreign Affairs Office of American Affairs Assistant Director Ms. Maria Regine Beatrice B. Vergara at the 15th FEALAC Cyber Secretariat Workshop that was held from 11 to 12 June 2025.

SEOUL, 11-12 JUNE 2025 —The 15th FEALAC Cyber Secretariat Workshop and related Meetings, under the theme “FEALAC's Vision for Reinvigorating Cooperation between East Asia and Latin America,” was successfully held from 11-12 June 2025 in Seoul, Korea.

Department of Foreign Affairs Office of American Affairs Assistant Director Ms. Maria Regine Beatrice B. Vergara represented the Philippines in the Meeting where she underscored Philippine support on FEALAC projects that strengthen bi-regional cooperation between East Asia and Latin America, and advance political, economic, and cultural relations with the Latin American region. 

The FEALAC newsletter distributed during the meeting featured Philippine Ambassador Dizon-De Vega and ROK MOFA Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean Lee Joo-il during their meeting in April 2025 where the Ambassador reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to FEALAC through active participation and support for its various initiatives. The Philippine Embassy in Seoul is an active participant in FEALAC as its Cybersecretariat is headquartered in Seoul. END

PH AMBASSADOR MEETS CHAIR OF ROK–PH PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP

8 January 2026, Seoul – Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez met with National Assembly Member Representative Kim Sung-won, Chair of the Republic of Korea–Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the National Assembly on 8 January 2026 to discuss strengthening parliamentary exchanges and bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea. Chairman Kim reaffirmed his strong support for deepening the Philippines–ROK strategic partnership and outlined prospective engagements with Philippine legislative leaders and business stakeholders. Both sides exchanged views on enhancing economic cooperation, and sustaining people-to-people ties.

PH, ROK REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO CONSULAR COOPERATION AND PROTECTION OF NATIONALS

9 January 2026, Seoul. Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, met with Director General for Consular Affairs Yoon Chuseok of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea to reaffirm the shared commitment of the Philippines and the ROK to the safety and welfare of their nationals. Both sides underscored the importance of close coordination, timely information-sharing, and sustained cooperation between relevant authorities. The meeting builds on the constructive outcomes of the Philippines–ROK Joint Consular Consultation Meeting held in September 2025 in Manila. The meeting reaffirmed the shared resolve of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea to deepen collaboration on consular and public safety matters, reflecting the enduring strength of PH-ROK relations anchored on robust people-to-people ties and a dynamic strategic partnership. PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN SEOUL VISITS HANGANG RIVER TUNNEL PROMOTION CENTER

11 January 2026, Paju City. Philippine Embassy in Seoul’s Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Edwin Gil Q. Mendoza together with PTIC-Seoul Commercial Attaché Charmaine Mignon Yalong and the economic section visited the Hangang River Tunnel Promotion Center on 29 December 2025 located in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province. The center is being operated by Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC), a public corporation established in 1969 specializing in the road and transportation sectors in the Republic of Korea.
