Seoul, Republic of Korea – Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez called on Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to the Philippines H.E. Miguel Angel Ubaldino Romero Alvarez on 28 January 2026 at the Paraguay Embassy in Seoul to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in regional and multilateral fora. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing political dialogue, economic engagement, and people-to-people ties. The discussion highlighted Paraguay’s role as current President of MERCOSUR and growing opportunities for collaboration with ASEAN, including prospects for trade cooperation, sustainability initiatives, and carbon market mechanisms. A shared commitment to a rules-based international order, peaceful settlement of disputes, and respect for international law was likewise underscored. 

Ambassador Fernandez highlighted the Philippines’ leadership in ASEAN, its advocacy for regional cooperation, and its commitment to advancing shared principles within multilateral fora, including the United Nations, that promote peace, security, and inclusive growth. Both sides expressed readiness to pursue further high-level exchanges and deepen cultural and diplomatic engagement, reaffirming the longstanding friendship between the Philippines and Paraguay. END
