THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY AND MWO-OWWA KOREA EMPOWERS FILIPINO WORKERS THROUGH PALIT-VISA SEMINAR AND KIIP INFORMATION SESSION
12 October 2026, Seoul – The Philippine Embassy in Seoul, through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) - OWWA Korea, in partnership with the Itaewon Global Village Center (IGVC), conducted the “Palit-Visa Seminar & KIIP Information Session” on 11 October 2026 at the Sentro Rizal Hall of the Philippine Embassy. The Palit-Visa Seminar was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing Filipino workers to participate both in person and online via Zoom, while the KIIP Information Session was held in person.
The activity aimed to provide Filipino workers in South Korea with practical information on visa conversion pathways, updated immigration requirements, and the Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP). Through the sessions, participants gained a better understanding of the steps they can take toward long-term residency and the importance of preparing for integration into Korean society.
Mr. Jang Manik, a Licensed Immigration Specialist, served as the resource speaker for the Palit-Visa Seminar. He discussed the roadmap for E-9 workers aspiring to obtain permanent residency in South Korea, providing guidance on possible visa conversion pathways and strategies for achieving higher points. He also explained the latest rules and updates on visa conversion requirements, equipping participants with information to help them make informed decisions about their immigration plans.
Director Katherine Corteza of the Itaewon Global Village Center (IGVC) led the KIIP Information Session, highlighting the importance of the program for foreign nationals planning to stay in Korea. Through a hands-on tutorial, participants learned how to create their KIIP accounts using their mobile devices. Filipino volunteers who had successfully gone through the KIIP process also served as facilitators, assisting participants throughout the session and sharing their experience to help fellow Filipinos navigate the process. Director Corteza also discussed the process of registering for the KIIP level test and provided information on test schedules.
In his inspirational message, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Edwin Gil Q. Mendoza emphasized that integrating into Korean society should go hand in hand with maintaining one's Filipino identity. He encouraged Filipino workers to contribute positively to their host community while remaining proud of the values and cultural roots that unite Filipinos.
“As you integrate into Korean society, bear in mind that you need not leave your Filipino identity behind. Bring the resilience, warmth, diligence, and care for family to define our Filipino community. Integration means learning and contributing and building understanding while remaining proud of your roots,” Consul General Mendoza said.
The Philippine Embassy, through MWO-OWWA Korea, and the Itaewon Global Village Center continue to promote information-sharing and labor education initiatives that empower Filipino workers to navigate Korea's immigration system and prepare for their future. END
