15 October 2026, Seoul - Ambassador Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez met with Dr. Lee Seung An, Executive Director of the International WeLoveU Foundation (WeLoveU), and Mr. Na Byung Hyun to discuss potential avenues for humanitarian cooperation in support of Filipinos affected by natural disasters.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on how WeLoveU could contribute to relief and recovery efforts for communities in the Philippines that have been affected by climate-related disasters, including typhoons and severe weather events. Discussions focused on identifying immediate local needs and exploring opportunities for collaboration in economic upliftment, climate change mitigation and resilience, and infrastructure development. The aim is to establish practical, collaborative approaches to deliver timely and effective humanitarian assistance while supporting the long-term recovery and resilience of affected communities.
Dr. Lee shared that the Philippines has been selected as one of the seven target countries for WeLoveU's humanitarian aid initiatives to be funded through its upcoming 2026 WeLoveU Concert, scheduled for November 15, 2026, at Sunseung Hall, Kyung Hee University Global Campus, in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.
With an established chapter in the Philippines, WeLoveU highlighted its ongoing commitment to supporting Filipino communities through disaster relief, education, and community development initiatives. Its recent activities in the country include the restoration of typhoon-damaged Biasong Elementary School in Talisay City and the provision of school bags to students in June 2026, improvements to facilities at Tacloban National Agricultural School from February to April 2026, and a climate-resilient education seminar co-hosted with the Villar Foundation in June 2026.
Ambassador Fernandez welcomed the opportunity to discuss potential cooperation and emphasized the importance of ensuring that humanitarian assistance responds to the needs of affected communities and contributes to sustainable recovery.
The meeting underscored the shared interest in exploring practical ways to support disaster-affected Filipinos and strengthen humanitarian cooperation between the Embassy and the International WeLoveU Foundation. END
