SEOUL, 6 July 2014 – Ambassador Raul S. Hernandez received Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) executives led by Executive Vice President Hur Kyong-goo at the Philippine Embassy Chancery in Seoul on 3 July 2014.

During the call, which was arranged by Special Trade Representative and Commercial Counselor Nic Bautista of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Seoul, EVP Hur affirmed KEPCO’s continuing participation in the Philippine government's efforts to dramatically expand energy capacities in support of the growing economy.

KEPCO is presently exploring power projects in Bataan, Pangasinan and Surigao del Sur, with a combined total rated output of at least 600MW.

KEPCO generates and distributes around 90% of Korea's energy requirements. In the Philippines, it is the 4th largest energy producer, accounting for at least 12% of the country's energy supply.

KEPCO's projects in the Philippines include the 1,200 MW Ilijan co-generation natural gas plant in Batangas, and the Malaya heavy fuel oil plant in Rizal under ROMM (Rehabilitate-Operate-Maintain-Manage) arrangement.

KEPCO's proposal for the conversion of part of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant into a coal-fired facility is pending resolution by the Department of Energy (DOE).
