13 June 2017 - As part of its efforts to promote Philippine arts and culture in South Korea, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, in partnership with the Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel, organized a Philippine Food Festival which showcased the rich, unique cuisine of the country.

Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Raul S. Hernandez led the official launch of the food promotions event which was held on 09 June 2017 at Cafe 395 of the Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel.

Ambassador Hernandez, in his opening remarks, underscored the importance of food in constructing and shaping a country's character, and how geographical attributes and the historical evolution of cuisines, whether local or regional, help in the formation of a national identity.

"Filipino cuisine evolved through centuries of cultural and geographic diversity with different regional foods spread across the archipelago. This fusion of different cultural backgrounds and culinary inspiration has resulted in the creation of unique Filipino dishes with a wide-range of flavors," he told some 80 guests who attended the Opening Ceremony.

The PH Food Festival featured favorite Filipino fare such as Kare Kare, Kaldereta, Sisig, Chicken Piaparan, Ginataang Kuhol, Lumpiang Hubad, and Prawn Sinigang. Filipino desserts such as Turon na Munggo, Palitaw, and Halo-Halo were also showcased at the Festival.

The dishes were prepared by Chef Michelle Adrillana, a distinguished chef from the Philippines. Ms. Adrillana is considered one of the most sought-after chefs, having won many culinary awards. She has also done several Philippine food festivals in different parts of the world, with the last one in Doha, Qatar.

To complement the rich flavors and aroma of Filipino food and to give guests a holistic Filipino cultural experience, the event featured traditional dances performed by the Kaisahan ng Lahi ensemble as well as Filipino music sung by Mr. Reynan Dal-Anay and Ms. Faye Abadicio.
The PH Food Festival ran from 09 to 12 June 2017 at the Cafe 395 of Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel.
