PHILIPPINES PARTICIPATES IN 2025 KOREA-ASEAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CONFERENCE

30 September 2025, Seoul – Philippine Embassy Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Edwin Gil Q. Mendoza attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 Korea-ASEAN Intellectual Property Cooperation Conference under the theme “AI x IP = New Growth Engines,” held on 25 September 2025 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The conference was organized by the Federation of Intellectual Property Societies (FIPS) and hosted by the ROK Presidential Council on Intellectual Property (PICP).

Now on its third year, the conference brought together ROK government officials, industry leaders, academia, intellectual property experts and representatives from ASEAN member countries to share future visions and explore new pathways for Korea-ASEAN cooperation on the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and intellectual property (IP). 

PICP Chairman Lee Kwang-hyung, in his welcome speech, calls for strengthened solidarity between the Korea-ASEAN intellectual property community and seek new future directions together amidst the wave of AI transformation. In addition, FIPS Chairman Won Hye-young said in his opening remarks that “intellectual property is a bridge to the future,” adding that “if Korea and ASEAN pool their wisdom, intellectual property will become a true growth engine in the AI ​​era.”

Professor Seok Kyeong Hong of the Department of Communication at the Seoul National University delivered a keynote address on the “Global success of Korean contents,” elaborating the intellectual property challenges for Korea with the development of Hallyu (Korean wave).

In one of the sessions of the conference, Mr. Mark Thursday Alciso, General Manager of the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (FILSCAP) discussed copyright ownership and royalty claims issues in the age of AI music. 

The Korea-ASEAN IP Cooperation Conference continues to serve as an important platform for mutual cooperation and an enabler of creativity and innovation. END

PH EMBASSY HIGHLIGHTS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP, VALUE OF DIPLOMACY AT KNDA ANNUAL PANEL

25 March 2026, Seoul - The Philippine Embassy in Seoul participated in the Annual Diplomatic Panel of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) on 25 March 2026 at the DiploTown Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.  The program gathered forty (40) diplomatic candidates of the KNDA and five (5) working-level diplomats from the Embassies of the Philippines, Guatemala, the United Kingdom, Türkiye, and Brazil.  The KNDA panel convenes representatives of diplomatic missions in Seoul for an exchange on the practice of diplomacy and present the significance of their respective countries’ relations with the Republic of Korea to the newest cohort of Korean diplomats.

30 March 2026, Seoul – The Philippine Embassy in Seoul hosted a roundtable on cyber diplomacy, gender-inclusive artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity on 30 March 2026, bringing together female Heads of Mission in the Republic of Korea, diplomats, and invited stakeholders from government, academe, business, and civil society. The roundtable served as a platform for discussing cybersecurity, digital governance, artificial intelligence, and the continuing need to narrow the gender gap in the digital sphere.
